Law, Me and Myself!

I am trying to give up smoking. I call upon Naveen. I sign a contract with Naveen that states "If Naveen is ever caught smoking in office, he will give Rs 10, 000 to Bindu."

I am Naveen.

If I am caught smoking, will the contract be valid? I am trying to give up smoking, wouldn't such a law incentivise me to stop smoking?

It gets more interesting.

I feel bloody murderous. (All of us do, at times:-) I tell the police the same thing. Can they hold me captive?

What would be the repercussions of a law that allows contracts with self to be valid? What about the reverse hypothesis?
