18th century theory for 21st century technology!
Am working on probability theory, and hence this post will elaborate a little bit on Bayesian logic which is in the abstract annals of probability, and how it stops spam in Microsoft Outlook!
The Bayesian filter in your Microsoft Outlook categorizes material stretching from a spectrum of "guaranteed spam" to "not at all spam" depending on the user preferences, and it can be trained to do so, much like how you train your dog to recognise scents. This is because of the logic that spam contains certain type of texts, that will repeat continually.
For more on how this was done, read the simple version Bayesian logic and filters, for the developer's version read A Plan for Spam, which is not too technical, trust me!
